Reiki for animals
What to expect with an animal reiki session
As reiki is a non-invasive treatment it can be given at a distance as well as hands-on, and always with the animal's permission. A session will last up to an hour and during the first part of the session I will be setting an intent, requesting an animal's permission and then connecting with the animal, in order to start to channel the energy. When working with an animal I will start by offering reiki from a distance and often the animal will come over and position itself so I can place my hands wherever they feel the energy is needed. Other times they may fall into a "reiki nap", either standing or lying down.
How reiki can help an animal
Animals respond intuitively to reiki's power to heal emotional, behavioural, and physical illnesses and injuries. For animals who are ill, reiki is an amazing healing method as well as a safe complement to any Western or Chinese Medicine, homeopathy, or flower essences. For dying animals, Reiki is a powerful yet gentle way to provide comfort, relief from pain, fear, and anxiety, and to ease the transition to death. Reiki can also be helpful for pregnant animals.
If you are adopting an animal from a rescue centre, a session or two of reiki can help your new pet adjust to a new and no doubt, very different environment from that which it has been used to. Reiki will help calm and reassure your rescue pet and effectively ease it into the routine of its new home. Reiki can be useful in helping existing household pets bond with your new pet, as well as calming any animals that are showing behavioural distress.
Behavioural issues - if your pet is exhibiting signs of stress, unusual behaviour (such as waking the family through the night, excessive barking for no reason, snappiness towards other pets etc etc) or just seems unhappy, then a healing session can help. It is advisable to visit your vet prior to any healing session to see if there are any underlying medical conditions that may be affecting your pet.
If an animal is healthy, reiki helps to maintain their good health and enhances relaxation as well as providing a sense of calm and peacefulness.
Animal reiki sessions last up to an hour and are priced at £35 (a free, indepth consultation can mean a first appointment could last up to 90 minutes).
Email email@example.com to check availability and your appointment will be confirmed once payment is received.
A course of 4 sessions costs £130 (to get the discounted price, payment is required upfront).
Distant healing sessions are also available priced at £15 for 30 minutes.
I am also able to offer reiki to animal owners - a session can take place before or after I have treated your animal, at a discounted price of £30 for you. As animals pick up distress signals from their owners it is often very helpful for an owner to also have a treatment when their animal is unwell - you will feel relieved of anxiety, less stressed and better able to cope with any worrying issues.
Note: Should your animal refuse treatment then I will respect their wishes and cease the treatment - the remainder of the session will be spent discussing aftercare and providing you with recommendations to help your animal, as they do not wish to participate in reiki at that time.
Suggestions for a schedule of treatments:
Although healing can often be seen in one or two treatments, for continued health and well-being after an illness, all animals benefit most from a regularly scheduled programme of reiki. For animals displaying signs of illness or who are under veterinary or other holistic care, I recommend a treatment each day for 3 or 4 days, followed by a treatment weekly, or fortnightly, until recovered.
For horses, dogs, and cats nearing their transition I would begin with a series of treatments on consecutive days, and then as required. Animal owners may also find it beneficial to receive reiki themselves, to assist with the grief and emotional issues involved with losing a much loved pet.
Here some of the horses at Remus Sanctuary are enjoying reiki with me.
After they have enjoyed their reiki they let one of their little friends enjoy some personal attention.
Having greeted each of the volunteers on our arrival, here the horses are thanking each one of us as we leave.

I offer treatments Monday to Saturday, daytimes and evenings. Treatments are available in Chelmsford and surrounding areas. I am happy to visit you and your animal at most areas in Essex but travel costs may apply - please state your location when enquiring.
Please note that I abide by the Animal Reiki Practitioner Code of Ethics and therefore follow these guidelines:
I work in partnership with the animal;
I always ask permission of the animal before beginning, and respect his or her decision to accept or refuse any treatment. I listen intuitively and observe the animal's body language in determining the response;
I allow each animal to choose how to receive his or her treatment; thus each treatment could be a combination of hands-on, short distance and/or distant healing, depending on the animal's preference.
